The Wayne County Veterans Service
Commission is dedicated to assisting the veterans of Wayne
County
and their dependents. Certain rights and benefits may be obtained from the
county, state and federal governments. We are able to advise and assist on
these matters under the laws of the State of
Ohio, Sec. 5901 of the Revised Code.
We are not a branch of the
Department of Veterans Affairs.
The VA acknowledges our professional services. We work closely with the VA
to achieve a common goal, and to assist the veteran in obtaining his/her
rightful benefits under the law.
The Commission meets at 3:00 PM
on the 4th Monday of each month at the Veterans Service
Commission Office.

In 1636, the Plymouth Colony enacted into
law a provision that stated:
“if any man shalbee sent
forth as a soldier and shall return maimed he shalbee maintained competently
by the Colonie during his life”
By the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln phrased
it as:
To care for him who shall
have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan…”
